Syspal offers social distancing solutions to businesses

Stainless steel hygiene equipment specialist, Syspal, is assisting in improving control measures in the workplace. The company has designed and produced a range of screen dividers effective to separate production workers who normally work in close proximity to one another.

Due to current circumstances around COVID-19, it has been recognised that many food processors are finding it difficult to stay open, or operate efficiently, due to social distancing concerns.

However Syspal’s new social distancing screen design can help businesses get back to work, whilst still adhering to Government guidelines. One of the screens in the range consists of a stainless steel frame over which users can easily fit a disposable clear cover. This helps ensure staff do not cross-contaminate as the covers can be replaced regularly.

Chris Truman, Managing Director at Syspal, said:

“Working closely with the food industry, our team came up with the idea for the screens that are easy to maintain from a hygiene perspective, as well as complying with separation guidelines. The screens are quick to install allowing food processors in particular to carry on as usual. The dividers will assist many production facilities organised for maximum efficiency.”

The challenge was to create something low cost, easy to maintain and transparent so as not to obstruct operatives in a busy working environment. We have different versions available, which should be helpful to many production situations.”

The company is also open to supporting new and existing customers with other products. Since the start of the pandemic, the company has noticed an increase in demand for handwash stations, sanitisers and screen dividers.

The specialised handwash stations, with sensor-operated taps, would usually be sold into the food and pharmaceutical industry. However, many businesses are looking to maximise their hygiene efforts due to the pandemic.

This Made in the Midlands member supplies a wide range of products to help businesses maintain hygiene standards in the workplace. Such products include a sanitiser conveyor belt - allowing users to sanitise their goods - boot racks and transfer hatches.

Leading British stainless steel food processing equipment manufacturer, SYSPAL have recently returned from Gulfood 2017, the largest food manufacturing trade show in the Middle East, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

SYSPAL displayed an innovative line of mechanical handling equipment known as The Single Bin Solution. This combination of equipment is designed to operate as the complete solution for weighing, mixing, transferring and storing food product in one single Eurobin before washing down ready to repeat the process.

The Single Bin Solution has been developed to assist with improving efficiency, safety and throughput in factories as part of an optimised manufacturing philosophy.

The solution incorporates a Eurobin weigh scale, a Eurobin tumbler , a Eurobin tipper or lifter , Eurobin storage and a Eurobin wash frame, all of which are available in various configurations to suit specific requirements.

Each piece of equipment is innovatively designed to remove the need for manual handling of Eurobins and product whilst maintaining hygienic standards and high product quality. The elimination of manual handling helps to streamline the entire process by standardising each action. As only one Eurobin is used the risk of cross-contamination caused by multiple product transfers is reduced.

When operated as a complete production line The Single Bin Solution will reduce the risk of employees developing costly musculoskeletal injuries caused by repetitive manual lifting.

Syspal Ltd is based in the heart of the Shropshire countryside and despite their rural location, they are on the cutting edge of manufacturing. Apprentices learn from qualified, experienced peers and work on products from a wide variety of hygiene-conscious industries including food, pharmaceutical, veterinary and medical.

Products are distributed internationally and used worldwide thanks to the large export demand for high-quality food processing, animal welfare and healthcare products.

As a business Syspal supports employees to develop skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to their jobs and aims to create future leaders, progression is advocated throughout the training. Many employees at Syspal started their working life as apprentices in departments including design and welding and thanks to a quality apprenticeship training scheme, several of those former apprentices are now part of the management team.

All employees are encouraged to think in terms of innovation and continual improvement and this has led to the growing importance of product development and digital systems within the business. Innovations in manufacturing include paperless production systems, a virtual reality studio, 3D printing and solid modelling design software. Manufacturing equipment can be programmed directly from design models which in the case of sheet metal fabrication negates the need for blank developments.

Syspal has 160 employees including 12 apprentices and takes full advantage of the Apprenticeship Levy.
